Where Is The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Located – The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been around since 1909, and every Memorial Day weekend drivers start their engines for the Indianapolis 500: 200 laps around the 2.5-mile oval. This seasonal track is actually on the National Register of Historic Places. With a host of racing events throughout the year, there’s more to see than just the Indy 500. Other races include the GMR Grand Prix, the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational and the NASCAR Cup Series.

Also in the complex is the 37,500 square foot Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Located inside the famous oval track, the museum was established in 1956 to show the importance of motorsports. The museum features more than 25 cars that won the Indianapolis 500 along with additional cars (some antique), photos, racing memorabilia and even fine art depicting racing. The Tony Hulman Theater shows an 8-minute film about the track. Visitors have the choice of seeing the complex by purchasing race tickets, visiting only the museum or taking the very popular (and comprehensive) tour.

Aside from the sheer volume of souvenirs, some were also impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Reviewers generally like the Kiss the Bricks ride (which includes a lap around the track) though non-racing visitors seemed less impressed. Some also felt the museum itself was a bit small.
