Watch a classic black-and-white movie, and you know how it’s going to end. In an old-fashioned western, the white-hatted hero would ride off into the sunset. A monster movie? The monster won’t live on in the credits (until another sequel comes out, that is). And if it’s romance, you’re bound to hear wedding bells – a Hollywood-made happy ending.

What Is The Purpose Of Marriage According To The Bible

According to a Pew Research Center study, the number of “never married adults” is at a historic high. In fact, single people outnumber first-time married people in the United States.

What Is Marriage?

These statistics raise two logical questions: “Is marriage a dying institution? And do we need more?”

At a marriage conference Erin and I were speaking at, a young man asked me, “Why get married? I love my girlfriend and I am committed to her. I do all the things you encourage us to do to build a strong and healthy relationship. Why do we need expensive rings and pieces of paper to prove our love?

When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he had a lot to say about marriage. “‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This mystery is deep,” he wrote in Ephesians 5:31-32.

And he is right. When we enter into marriage—when we become “one flesh”—the commitment we make is truly profound and mysterious.

Questions To Ask Your Partner Before Marriage

In God’s eyes, marriage is much more than a formal declaration of love and commitment between two people. Here are nine reasons to get married, although there are undoubtedly others:

Why do great civilizations fall? What happened to Carthage, Egypt, Greece, Rome and other ancient superpowers? Although there were many reasons for the decline and fall of empires, historians have identified the breakdown of the family as the main contributing factor.

History shows that the strength of a nation depends on the strength of its family,” writes Gerald Flurry in The Trumpet. “The family is the rock-solid foundation on which the superstructure of a country stands.”

Families provide people with built-in support systems, financial security, and health benefits. They ensure that children are educated and communities thrive.

Fascinating Wedding Traditions From Around The World

“The family is the first and most important unit of society,” Pope John Paul II once said. “As the family goes, so goes the nation, and so goes the whole world we live in.”

Those families begin with husband and wife, and their union binds society together. A good reason to get married is to make a strong world for your children to live in.

In a traditional wedding ceremony, the man and woman make this promise: “I take you to be my betrothed wife/husband, and I promise and covenant before God and these witnesses, to be your loving and faithful spouse. From this day forward, for good , for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, loving and cherishing, hold till death do you part.”

When you get married, you are making a lifelong commitment to God and each other. You don’t do this if you’re having sex. In our culture, I’m not sure if young couples really understand the seriousness of marriage vows. But God sure does. Look at Matthew 19:4-6:

He replied, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’. ?So they are no longer two but one body.

God is involved in marriage, making it a sacred covenant that lasts a lifetime. This is just one reason why marriage and cohabitation are so different.

Compared to singles, married people are happier, healthier, safer and wealthier. They enjoy certain tax deductions, have good health insurance coverage and statistically have the most satisfying sex on the planet!

According to federal law, 1,138 benefits, rights and protections are provided based on marital status. As romantic as a nice tax break sounds, these benefits will never inspire anyone to get down on bended knee and ask their loved one to spend the rest of their lives together. I didn’t ask Erin to marry me for better insurance coverage.

. I wanted to experience life with my best friend. I wanted to enjoy passion and laughter, deep relationships and shared dreams, and most importantly, I wanted to follow Christ with Erin. I married my wife because of the anticipation of experiencing these and many other wonderful things for the rest of our lives. WHO

Married parents tend to provide a safe and healthy home environment for their children. On average, children in these families:

And do you know how your children will treat their spouse the way they see you treating their spouse? A son learns how to be a husband and how women should behave by watching the behavior of their parents. A daughter looks up to her parents and learns how to be a wife and how a man should treat her. So if you love and respect each other, your children will want to do the same in their marriage. Your marriage is the blueprint for your child’s intimacy and relationships.

When two people make a lifelong commitment before God and each other, they create a level of safety and security that cannot be duplicated in any other human relationship.

Christian Wedding Ceremony

When spouses truly believe in their wedding vows, they are ready to be naked and shameless, just as Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:25). They are completely identified with their spouse on the deepest levels: spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically. They experience a deep vulnerability and openness that cannot be had in other relationships.

I’m not suggesting that every married couple actually reaches this level of intimacy, but the potential is there—and it’s unique to marriage. How’s that for the wedding scene?

The Oxford Dictionary defines synergy as “the cooperation of two or more elements to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.” You can define marriage in almost the same way.

I repeat what Paul wrote in Ephesians: “The two shall become one flesh. This mystery is profound…” The profound mystery is how men and women, despite all their differences, can be united

Are Non Christian Marriages Valid In God’s Eyes?

This “unity” is a superpower. When a husband and wife are united, they can accomplish amazing things together. When they are united in vision and pursue a common dream together, they can serve God in powerful ways.

“Picture marriage as a means of mission, an opportunity for Christians to fulfill our mission of making disciples of all nations,” said Pastor Francis Chan.

God wants you to use your superpower, your unity, to bless others and do extraordinary things for the kingdom of God. He does not want you to hoard the power He has given you. Your marriage should be about something bigger than personal satisfaction, petty arguments and the pursuit of happiness. Inwardly focused marriages are not fulfilling. Find a vision for your marriage that you are both passionate about and use your synergy to benefit others.

Is marriage designed to make us “happy” or “holy”? In fact, it makes us both. God created marriage to be more than a relationship that meets our needs and gives us joy.

That said, to suggest that marriage is designed solely to bring spiritual growth through trial is a complete misinterpretation of God’s intent.
