It seems like there are a lot of poets out there and other people.. all saying the same thing.. and then we wonder why these relationships don’t last? And I was there.. I was fed that crap and I ate it.. I fed other people that nonsense and they ate it too. Did any of the relationships work? No, why?? Because only so far will “MY MY MY ME ME ME” get you. “MY MY MY ME ME” IS NOT LOVE. Don’t convince yourself that lust, sex and selfishness is love.. read your Bible!! “Fall in love with my mind and take off everything” is SHORT TERM. You always waiting for someone else to do something to sustain your relationship is SHORT TERM. You thinking you have power because you can play with someone’s mind until they say “I love you” is SHORT TERM. You thinking that SEX WILL KEEP SOMEONE SHORT TERM. If you are not GIVING anything else.. please don’t be surprised when you hear they are getting it somewhere else. A vagina or a penis isn’t hard to find if the only thing you’re looking for is someone to tickle your mind. Tickling your mind is NOT love. It’s as much love as a stranger flirting with you.

I can’t say I have a box if I have a piece of cardboard in my hand. It’s not “love” if you’re holding on to one aspect of it. It’s just a small aspect of it. The love between a man and a woman leads to all those feelings of sexual pleasure you desire. But that’s why the Bible has systems. If you want the relationship, the sexual part to last… and feel good… it has to happen based on TRUE LOVE. (And if you really love someone like that… then you should look at marriage FIRST and do all that later. For some reason, many people expect to get the joys of a couple in love without even showing true love, let alone being married .. and if we all waited until marriage, there wouldn’t be so many sexual health issues.. But that’s another post haha.)

The Bible says “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to control your own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God. Therefore, whoever disregards this, disregards not man, but God, who gives His Holy Spirit to you.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, 8 ESV). “But we do not need to write to you about the importance of loving one another, for God himself has taught you to love one another.” (1 Thessalonians 4:9 NLT).

So, back to love. We’re so quick to say we love others… but in relationships with people you “love,” are you patient with them when they’re doing things wrong? Are you kind to them in the way you speak? Are you jealous of what they have, what they have achieved, or who they are friends with? Do you brag to them about what you have? Do you put your pride above all else in an argument? Do you demand your own way all the time? Are you easily irritated by them or do you take your anger out on them? Do you count the times they were or did something wrong? Do you lie to them? Do you encourage illegal acts/gossip against other people? Do you put your “love” for this person above justice, allowing them to get away with things that are harmful to you, them, or others? Have you given up on the people you “love”? Have you lost hope in the people you “love”? Do you pray for the people you “love”? Do you help the people you “love” in times of need? THIS IS LOVE!!! THIS IS THE WAY GOD TAUGHT US TO LOVE EACH OTHER! If you know that one of your answers to these questions is not what it should be…maybe you need to find your way to the Bible and encourage the people you are thinking about to do the same! We cannot demonstrate this love until we first feel it and recognize it as coming from God.

Yesterday I was not at all patient with my boyfriend.. so impatient that I started being quite rude about the situation and then there was a big space for Pride to fit in.. which he did 😥 haha. And I ended up leaving the phone dissatisfied with him, dissatisfied with the situation, but above all dissatisfied with myself.

I had to remind myself that behaving this way is not showing love…and this is not how Jesus would have treated me. When you remember how much Jesus loves you and has forgiven your mistakes, I’m telling you that’s enough to resolve a situation. The feelings of pride were quickly dissolved and I contacted him again to apologize. He must have thought I was crazy because all of this happened in the space of about 4 minutes haha.

But that’s it.. it doesn’t matter what the other person thinks or how they respond.. what matters is that your love is true love. The love described in the Bible.. the kind of love that God wants us to have with Him and with those around us.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 tells us, “If I could speak all the languages ​​of the earth and of the angels, but did not love others, I would be but a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2  If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had so much faith that I could move mountains, but did not love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave all I had to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; [a]  but if I didn’t love others, I wouldn’t have gained anything.”

True Love & Fake Love

Let’s stop this wishy-washy love.. this love that ends after a petty disagreement.. I know there are definitely situations I need to pray about that I’ve let pride get in the way of! Let’s stop looking to other people and other books to “teach us how to love”.. read the Bible! Read the words of the one who created love. LIFE! Learn about the love between parents and children.. husband and wife.. the love between friends. It’s all there and more! Pray that the Lord will begin to show you what you need to change to show true love to those around you… until it spreads to everyone you know, not just the people you say you love.

As they say, sometimes the only people who read the Bible are us. Let’s get the basics right first and learn how to show love the RIGHT way. something much more welcome – it brought me some wisdom. With each passing year, we understand more about ourselves and our relationships. My partner and I have been together for over five years and I have had some of the best experiences of my life with him. We also had some pretty difficult ones. While I’m not sure there’s a real secret to making things work, I know it’s possible if you’re both truly interested.
