What Is The Goal For Sustainable Development – One great example of how we use partnerships and collaborations is through all our work around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

These 17 goals build on the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable development, peace and justice, among others. The goals are intertwined – often the key to success on one will involve addressing issues that are closely related to another.

The SDGs work in a spirit of cooperation and expertise to make the right choices now to improve life, in a sustainable way, for future generations. They provide specific guidelines and targets for all countries to apply in line with their priorities and global environmental challenges.

United Nations: Sustainable Development Goals

Philanthropy has played a key role in developing the SDGs and is now leading and shaping the global discussion on how to achieve them. Even before 193 heads of state endorsed the policy in September 2015, it was clear that the support of humanitarian and other private sector organizations was critical to the success of the policy. Some foundations and companies have helped shape the goals while many actors have supported programs to help achieve them. Government and business cannot achieve these goals on their own; we need all departments to work together.

In addition to fostering partnerships, donors can assist these efforts by providing advice, facilitating implementation, helping to identify ways to measure success and training the next generation of leaders capable of developing evidence-based approaches that are addressing human development, health and economic and environmental needs. in the basis of the SDGs. Historically, public participation has not been heard from discussions on global policy, especially at the national level. This has changed through the SDG Philanthropy Platform, a multi-year philanthropic initiative led by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Foundation, and Supported by the Conrad N. The partnership held strategic workshops in five pilot countries: Kenya, Colombia, Indonesia, Ghana and Zambia. The workshop brought together representatives from donors, governments, and the United Nations, to identify specific opportunities for cooperation to achieve global development goals.

Goals Towards Sustainable Development

The SDG Philanthropy Platform has been recognized as a key government partner in the implementation of the SDGs in Kenya, especially with the official launch of the platform by the President of Kenya on September 14, 2016. This example shows that together , dedication. and with deliberate effort, with good people, progress can be made over time.

Another way we seek to integrate the SDGs into our work is by designing our program areas to align directly with the goals and indicators of specific SDGs. Our Water Strategy initiative, for example, aligns directly with SDG 6: Clean Water. In line with SDG 6, our global vision is for every person living in poverty and facing deprivation, health and school facilities to have access to clean and affordable water by 2030 and beyond.

Children affected by HIV and AIDS is an example of a Foundation’s Strategic Initiative that fits a specific mission. The goal of the Children Affected by HIV and AIDS Initiative is to improve the developmental outcomes of all children (ages 0-5) affected by HIV and AIDS in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia by 2030 in line with the SDG goals. 4.2.

We learned through a study of Catholic sisters in Africa that while African sisters are already engaged in SDG activities they often do so without knowing the SDG goals and objectives so there is potential to increase their effectiveness through collaboration with other development practitioners. Therefore, the Catholic sisters asked to be helped to develop the SDG leadership capacity which will lead to many benefits that will increase the effectiveness of their SDG ministries.

Sustainable Development Goal 17: Strengthen The Global Partnership

In addition to the Clean Water and Children Affected by HIV and AIDS Initiatives aligning with specific SDGs, we are also exploring ways to apply the SDGs to our local strategies, including Homelessness, Abuse Prevention and Abu and Youth.

We continue to research, identify and fund programs that work to advance the SDGs. Below are a few key support and job descriptions we offer. To date, we have approved approximately $10 million in funding for the following programs and others in line with the SDGs. The forum meets every year under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days in July. However, indigenous peoples have faced difficulties in getting their views expressed in the 2030 Agenda. Although all 17 goals are relevant to indigenous peoples, only 4 of the 230 indicators specifically mention indigenous peoples. (see sidebar).

Many others have argued that these few symbols associated with indigenous people do not reflect the sense of well-being of the indigenous people. The Great Society of Indigenous Peoples stated in their 2016 document, “For Indigenous peoples around the world, ‘leaving no one behind’ means respecting the economy of life and improving non-financial levels of well-being. For example. . . The monetary standard of $ 1.25 / day for extreme poverty is not appropriate for indigenous people, whose security of rights to land, territories and resources is important to eradicate poverty.
