The raster images (.png format) below already include the most commonly used organs, and text and lines can be added in almost any graphic editor. This is the easiest method, but leaves no room for customizing what organs are displayed.

With this method, a body diagram can be obtained by pasting the organs into one of the “plain” body drawings shown below. This method requires a graphics editor capable of handling transparent images, to avoid white boxes around the organs when pasted into the body image. An image of the organ can be found on the project’s main page. It was originally adapted to fit the shadow/silhouette of a man.

The Vector Templates below can be used to obtain images, for example with Inkscape. This is the method with the greatest potential.

The function of your external genitals is to protect the inside from infection and allow sperm to enter your vagina.

Your vulva is the collective name for all of your external genitalia. Many people mistakenly use the term “vagina” to refer to all female reproductive parts. However, your vagina is its own structure located inside your body.

The female reproductive system has several functions. Apart from enabling a person to have sexual intercourse, it also helps a person reproduce.

Your ovaries produce eggs. These eggs are then transported to the fallopian tubes during ovulation where fertilization by sperm can occur. The fertilized egg then moves to your uterus, where the uterine lining thickens in response to the normal hormones of your menstrual cycle (also called your reproductive cycle). Once in your uterus, the fertilized egg can implant into the thickened uterine lining and continue to develop. If implantation does not occur, the uterine lining will shed along with your menstrual period. Additionally, the female reproductive system produces sex hormones that maintain your menstrual cycle.

During menopause, the female reproductive system gradually stops producing the female hormones necessary for the menstrual cycle to work. At this point, the menstrual cycle may become irregular and eventually stop. You are considered menopausal if you have gone a full year without a menstrual period.

Women or AFAB people of reproductive age (ranging from 11 to 16 years of age) experience cycles of hormonal activity that repeat at intervals of about one month. With each cycle, your body prepares for a potential pregnancy, whether that was your intention or not. The term menstruation refers to the periodic shedding of your uterine lining when pregnancy does not occur during that cycle. Many people call the days when they notice vaginal bleeding “menstruation.”

There are four main hormones (chemicals that stimulate or regulate the activity of cells or organs) involved in the menstrual cycle. These hormones include:

This phase begins on the first day of your period. During the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, the following events occur:

The ovulatory phase (ovulation) usually begins about 14 days after the follicular phase begins (the exact time varies). The ovulation phase is the second phase of your menstrual cycle. Most people will menstruate 10 to 16 days after ovulation. During this phase, the following events occur:

Female Reproductive System: Structure & Function

You are born with all the eggs you will ever produce. During fetal development, you have about 6 million egg cells. At birth, there are about 1 million egg cells remaining. By the time you reach puberty, there are only about 300,000 left. The number of eggs you have continues to decrease as you get older and menstruate each cycle. Fertility also decreases with age due to the reduced number and quality of remaining eggs.

In humans, the female and male reproductive systems work together to reproduce. There are two types of sex cells – sperm and egg cells. When sperm meets an egg, it can fertilize it and produce a zygote. This zygote eventually becomes a fetus. Both sperm and egg cells are needed for human reproduction.

The female reproductive organs are involved in sexual activity, fertility, menstruation and reproduction. Everyone’s reproductive organs look a little different. Some people are born with missing or irregularly shaped reproductive organs. This can affect the function of your reproductive system and cause irregular bleeding, difficulty getting pregnant, or painful sex. As a biologist, one of my favorite things to talk about with people is how little we know about the human body (especially the brain). I think our ignorance about our own bodies really underscores how many mysteries there are still out there…or do I think here? As technology advances, our exploratory abilities increase, allowing us to observe new and varied things, such as new organs within the layers of the skin, for example.

We usually think of human skin as the tough outer layer of our body. The skin (or dermis) also makes up a large part of our body on the inside. Typically, we think of skin as a dense, layered structure of cells and smooth, elastic collagen. (Yes, stuff people put in
