I Feel I Have No Purpose In Life – This will sound terrible to most of your readers, but it has been eating me up, so here goes. I’m rich and I’ve never had to work. I have had an idyllic life.

I have dated famous actresses; I have two degrees from good universities; I have a house in a fashionable part of London. But as I enter my 40s, I begin to feel aimless.

I Feel I Have No Purpose In Life

I Feel I Have No Purpose In Life

I try to live an ethical life, consume responsibly, fly as little as possible, give to charity (and have started volunteering in local charity shops). But more and more I just despise myself as a parasitic waste of space. I wouldn’t say I’m depressed, but the fact that my life has no value to anyone has started to stop me from feeling lucky like I know I should.

Is This What Happens At Dental School?

What I really want now is to turn things around before it’s too late. I wouldn’t have the guts to give my money away (most of it is in trust so I wouldn’t be able to make it anyway) and I can’t imagine starting in any of the professional fields that might interest me. Wondering if you have any advice for me?

As you’re only now entering your 40s, you have a world of opportunities ahead of you that are a reflection of your personal wealth. You could train in so many areas of public service. Health. Care. Full time fundraising and management for charity. Your material luck means you can take a course, an internship, whatever. You can combine fun and adventure with public service. Why not qualify as a pilot (seriously!) and offer your services for free to overseas charities that desperately need them?

Come on, Anon, think creatively! Assuming basic good health, you are only halfway through your life. You feel like the first half is wasted. OK – so start paying off that debt now. You have decades left to ‘make a difference’. Do it. Make a plan, focus and follow through. Have you also questioned your purpose and purpose in life? Did things feel or feel pointless and pointless to you?

I felt there was no point in living so long. I felt so alien and so different from everyone else that I really felt like I had no purpose and life had no purpose.

Dear Therapist: How Do I Find My Purpose In Life?

After all the trauma, it is difficult and almost terrifying to look into the future. It is something we avoid as it feels like things will never change for us…

We are often stuck in the past with nothing to look forward to. No wonder it feels like there is no purpose and that we wake up every morning feeling miserable, stuck and depressed.

I just attended a workshop where we made mission statements and made purpose statements. While I can be really happy about this today, I couldn’t 10 years ago. It would have just brought up emptiness and despair.

Therefore, I would like to share my intermediate step with you, in the hope that it will help you too. Maybe not, but I’m always curious to know what’s holding you back or what you used as a stepping stone to get out of this dark place trauma can put you.

When you have PTSD being present in the present is something really difficult to achieve because we are so stuck in the past. And if we think about the future, it is usually anxiety-inducing.

So even staying in the present can be a scary thing. It’s something we have to learn – it’s a skill.

I have been working on my intermediate purpose in life for a long time and that is ok. The more I could stay in the moment and become comfortable with being in the moment and really appreciate the beauty of the moment, the more I could be curious.

The more present and curious I was, the more I could connect with my inner resourcefulness and become a bit more exploratory. That’s when I started:

You can see it here We all feel lost in life at some point, right? But what if I told you – that it’s completely normal!

There are different degrees of feeling lost, and we are likely to experience a spectrum of them throughout our lives.

I created a series of posts on Instagram that show the spectrum. This article will go into a little more detail about the spectrum itself and how we can move on with our lives.

Feeling lost is another term for when we as humans feel like we have no direction or clarity about where we are going. Our lives will usually feel like they are lacking in certain areas and we won’t necessarily feel fulfilled with what we are doing with our lives at the time. When we feel truly lost – at the lower end of the spectrum, we are most likely to feel that our lives lack meaning and purpose.

Alexithymia: When You Have No Words To Describe How You’re Feeling

Those people at the top of the spectrum who look like they ‘have it all figured out’ have probably figured out what their meaning and purpose in life is. But be aware – even these people will most likely experience periods of feeling a little lost.

It’s a natural human condition – there will always be days when the most ‘composed’ person has moments where they’re just really not sure where they’re going. The difference between the people at the top of the spectrum and the bottom is that those at the top have probably figured out tools and techniques to get back on track. I’ll get into some of these later, don’t worry.

Ultimately, the goal in life, if we’re talking about the spectrum and a scale of 0-100, is to move closer to the 80 mark as we move through life’s journey. Remember – this is all life’s work, it takes time, it’s not something that just happens overnight.
