Diagram Of All Bones In Human Body – The skeletal system includes all the bones, cartilage, and ligaments in the body that support and give the body shape and form. The skeleton is made up of the bones of the body. In adults, there are 206 bones in the skeleton. Younger individuals have more bone mass because some bones fuse during childhood and adolescence to form adult bones. The basic functions of the skeleton are to provide a solid internal structure that can support the body’s weight against the force of gravity, and to provide a structure for the muscles to act on to produce body movements. The lower part of the skeleton is specialized for stability during walking or running. In contrast, the upper skeleton has greater mobility and range of motion, characteristics that allow you to lift and carry objects or turn your head and body.

In addition to providing support and movement to the body, the skeleton has protective and storage functions. It protects the internal organs, including the brain, spinal cord, heart, lungs, and pelvic organs. Skeletal bones serve as the primary storage site for important minerals such as calcium and phosphate. The bone marrow found inside the bones stores fat and houses the blood cells that make up the body’s cells.

The skeleton is divided into two main parts – axial and appendicular. The axial skeleton forms the vertical, central axis of the body and includes all the bones of the head, neck, chest, and back. It serves to protect the brain, spinal cord, heart, and lungs. It also serves as the attachment point for the muscles that move the head, neck, and back, and the muscles that work in the shoulder and hip joints to move their corresponding joints.

The axial skeleton of an adult consists of 80 bones, including the skull, vertebral column, and cage. The skull is made up of 22 bones. Also associated with the skull are seven additional bones, including the hyoid bone and the ear ossicles (three small bones found in the middle ear). The vertebral column consists of 24 bones, each called a vertebra, plus the sacrum and coccyx. The rib cage includes 12 pairs of ribs, and the sternum, the flat bone in the front of the chest.

The back skeleton includes all the bones of the upper and lower limbs, plus the bones that connect each limb to the axial skeleton. There are 126 bones in the back skeleton of an adult. The bones of the back skeleton are covered in a special part.

Figure 1. Axial and Appendicular Skeleton The axial skeleton supports the head, neck, back, and chest and thus forms the vertical axis of the body. It consists of the head, the vertebral column (including the sacrum and coccyx), and the chest cavity, formed by the ribs and sternum. The spine consists of all the bones of the upper and lower limbs. PNG preview size of this SVG file: 310 × 599 pixels. Human skeleton, the internal skeleton that serves as a structure for the body. This structure consists of specific bones and many cartilages. There are also bundles of fibrous connective tissue—ligaments and tendons—that are intimately connected to skeletal components. This article is primarily concerned with the general structure and function of the skeleton in the normal adult.

The human skeleton, like that of other vertebrates, consists of two sub-segments, each with a different origin than the other and each exhibiting unique characteristics. These are (1) axial, which consists of the vertebral column—the spine—and most of the head, and (2) appendages, which include the pelvis (hip) and pelvis (shoulder) joints and the bones and cartilage of the limbs. This article is analyzed as part of the axial skeleton is a third subdivision, visceral, which consists of the lower jaw, elements of the upper jaw, and the branchial arch, including the hyoid bone.

When one considers the relationship of these sub-skeletal parts to the soft parts of the human body—such as the nervous system, the digestive system, the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, and
