What Is The Purpose Of A Christian – Today we define why we need worship, what it is for us and in us. Much of today’s post came from my lecture notes on liturgical worship.

How To Find Your Purpose As A Christian

This is a simple and concise statement of the purpose of worship. Yet there are several, rather large, aspects of this statement about the purpose of worship. So I would like to elaborate a bit on this statement.

First, worship is for the “glory of God.” As believers we gather in worship to praise the nature of God; glorify His glory and His glorious attributes. Simple enough, right?

Second, worship is for the “sanctification” of believers. This one is a bit more complicated because sanctification is one of those church words that we use a lot but aren’t always quite sure how to define what it means. Simply put, sanctification is the biblical concept of making God’s people holy. Remember that holy simply means to be set apart. So the purpose of worship is also to shape us into people who are different from other people, set apart for God and His purpose. Finally, we see that worship is for the “education” of believers, which is another church word. Education is not about making people feel good. It is a word that communicates an action, specifically the act of creating/building. This is the language of “architecture” (meaning “building”). Edification is the creation of a structure, the building of the Christian community as a temple of God. Think of it this way, the gathered people are pictured as stones that are built together through worship to become the temple of God. Great picture!

The Purpose Of The Christian Life

In this simple quote from Pope Pius X, we see a complex and beautiful picture of worship emerge. Worship is much more than just singing songs. Worship is about giving glory to God, which transforms us into God’s people, who together form the living temple of God. Worship is something we do, but it also does something

“[Worship is] a way into God’s presence [gathered], hearing from God [reading the Word] that glorifies Christ [at the communion table] and that sends us into a world changed by our encounter with God [when we are sent back].”[ 1]

Worship is where we come together, united in the Body of Christ, to glorify God and what He has done for us. In worship we give praise, but we also experience the presence of God and receive communication from Him. Worship forms us into people who are separate/different from the rest of the world. 1 Our Purpose God brought Lamoille Valley Grace Church of the Brethren into existence to: Praise our Lord Jesus Christ This is done through daily personal and family time in prayer and scripture study. This happens together when God’s family gathers together (Sunday and Wednesday, etc.) (Acts 2:41-47; Proverbs 8:34-36; John 4:24; Hebrews 10:24-25)

2 Our Aim To Encourage Christians Followed by the worship of God. We are to love one another, encourage the weak, rebuke the unruly, and build one another up. (John 13:35; 1 Thess. 5:11-14; Hebrews 10:24-25) Evangelism of non-Christians This occurs through each person’s personal witness to non-Christians; through personal evangelism, mission team efforts, and finally in church planting.
