Things To Cut From Budget To Save Money

Have you overspent? Are you trying to save for a big purchase, or trying to pay off that debt faster? Here is a list of the first ten things that I think you should reduce your budget to reduce your monthly expenses.

Well, we’ll start with the obvious. Don’t go out to eat again. It’s expensive. You don’t have to pay $17.99 for a meal, another $12 for drinks and a 20% tip. You can save a lot by cooking at home. And actually, there are several other benefits to cooking at home – you feel healthier, you feel like you’re saving money, it can be a fun hobby.

I used to have budget line items for cleaning products – you know, Mr. Clean erasers (the stuff is magical!), all the Lysol wipes you can imagine, swiffer stuff, big tubs of Formula 409. Honestly, that stuff is expensive and adds up. You don’t need to buy it again. First of all, you probably have enough cleaning materials to last you 1-2 years. Also, you can make SO cleaning products. CHEAP. with some $0.99 vinegar, tap water, and maybe a drop or two of Dawn. Eliminate this from your budget (and don’t try to include it in your grocery budget either).

Another obvious one. Just do it. Don’t think about it. It will save you a lot of money. Where I live, it’s common to pay $130/month for cable. That’s over $1500/year! You can watch primetime shows online for free (even 1 week after airing), but who cares. And if you’re a big sports fan, find a friend who has a TV.

It’s strange, but near me, people always wash cars. They will also purchase a $60 monthly pass that gives them unlimited car washes. Absolutely no need. You can do it yourself with some water and soap.

Sorry ladies (and maybe some guys…). This stuff is expensive!! No more $60 haircuts (go to Supercuts for your $12.99), no more $100 hair dye, and say goodbye to pampering yourself with a mani/pedi.

Be honest. You have a lot of clothes. And you don’t wear 80% of it. Clean out your closet. Choose some clothes that you like and wear them. Don’t buy anything new. The clothes in your closet should last you several years.
