When I read that some people are able to go back to work the day of their procedure when the lidocaine wears off after a few hours, I wondered. I started to feel sharp, shooting pains shooting out from under my arms. Meanwhile, the area has doubled due to swelling with black and blue marks from the injections.

Between the bruises and swelling and the remains of my temporary tattoo that lasted about a day and a half, I never thought I’d wear a tank top again. It was hard to look at that area in the mirror—I felt nauseous almost every time I did, but I reminded myself that the side effects were temporary.

Wondering if my reaction was normal, I reached out to Scavone at least six times, and each time he assured me everything was going to be fine! (Did I mention I’m a terrible patient?!)

Over the next day and a half, I tapered off the pain meds but continued to ice and immobilize the area for three days using small bottles of frozen water from Trader Joe’s to keep the swelling down. Fortunately, my team was cool with me working from home for a few days.

A week after the procedure, I still felt uncomfortable, well, weird: I had several lumps under my arms along with shooting pains in the area that lasted about three weeks.

It’s been two months since my MiraDry treatment, and although my swelling and lumps are gone, my sweating isn’t completely gone. That said, it’s toned down significantly, and I only feel damp on very hot days – and don’t need deodorant to keep the smell at bay, but I still wear it for a nice scent.
