Kybella® Double Chin Injections In Shreveport

Kybella is the brand name for an injection that breaks down fat cells. The actual active ingredient used in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, an acid that occurs naturally in the digestive system. The body uses deoxycholic acid to break down fat during digestion. So it makes sense that this same acid could be used to dissolve fat in other parts of the body, such as the chin. Deoxycholic acid was originally used to destroy non-cancerous tumors. However, the FDA has approved the solution for cosmetic purposes to break up fat cells under the chin.

When an injection is used to destroy fat cells, such as with Kybella, it is called injection lipolysis. Kybella is given several injections in strategic places under the chin and around the jawline to start dissolving fat cells. Although local anesthesia is typically used, some patients report tingling or pain during this procedure. Kybella usually requires two or more sessions spread over several weeks or months. It is very important that these injections are placed correctly, as they can cause serious nerve damage with a small difference in placement.

Patients who choose Kybella injection should expect swelling, bruising, numbness and discomfort in the jaw area. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to over a month or more. In addition, some patients report difficulty swallowing due to swelling and the “Kybella vibration” that occurs after injection, which makes the area feel strangely jelly-like.

Another side effect can be the formation of scar tissue under the chin, which can feel like knots. Since Kybella does not remove fat cells from the body, but instead attacks them with this acid solution, this can cause an immune response from the body. These “nodules” may result and are known as granulomas. They are caused by scar tissue forming around destroyed fat cells. It can take four to six weeks for them to disappear.

Best Double Chin Removal Treatment

Chin liposuction is a quick and safe surgical procedure that permanently removes fat cells from under the chin and around the jawline.

Although surgery may sound like a much more significant procedure, new liposuction techniques make it quick and safe, requiring minimal downtime. The procedure uses an additional small tube to gently suction fat cells. Recovery usually takes just a few days of inactivity before patients can return to their normal routine. Chin lipo can often be done under local anesthesia at Dr. Cat’s office, but it can also be done under general anesthesia in our surgery center.

It is important to know the difference between liposuction and a neck lift. With Kybella and chin liposuction, excess fat is removed or destroyed. Neither procedure can address sagging or excess skin (which is common in older adults). However, a neck lift, which can help smooth out sagging neck skin, can easily be combined with a chin liposuction procedure. A neck lift cannot be done with Kybella.

It is important to remember that Kybella requires several visits. The price of each visit varies depending on how many Kybella vials are needed. Kybella sessions can range from $500 to $1,000 per bottle, but this is just an estimate. The final price can be anywhere from $1500 upwards depending on the number of sessions required. Kybella does not remove fat cells from the body. Only chin liposuction physically removes fat cells from the body.
