Take a look at your bank statement for the past few months (3-6 months) to see where your money has gone.

Things you want – for example: income, utilities, medical, food, children, pets, entertainment, etc. or desirable and undesirable. Or whatever system works best for you, so you can see what your family is spending.

Look at each category, figure out which one you spend the most money on, and start there first. If these costs seem reasonable, consider them. If not, what can be done to reduce this monthly cost?

Always ask if they have any discounts you can afford – if you are a first responder, veteran, teacher, military member, etc.
