Take a look at your bank statement for the past few months (3-6 months) to see where your money has gone.

Things you want – for example: income, utilities, medical, food, children, pets, entertainment, etc. or desirable and undesirable. Or whatever system works best for you, so you can see what your family is spending.

Look at each category, figure out which one you spend the most money on, and start there first. If these costs seem reasonable, consider them. If not, what can be done to reduce this monthly cost?

Be realistic with yourself about what changes you can make, and if the costs are really necessary. Go down the rest of the list of expenses, doing the same for each one.

In some places, you may only have one choice of utility provider, but if not, try shopping around to see who can offer the best rates.

Always ask if they have any discounts you can afford – if you are a first responder, veteran, teacher, military member, etc.

Make sure you get the most bang for your buck with your car and home insurance. If you’ve been with the same companies for a while, call to see if they can give you a better rate.

Let’s face it, medical costs in the United States are very high. If you can get health insurance for you and your family through your employer, this is the best option.

Split the cost of a phone plan with family or friends. In some cases, it may be cheaper to get multiple phone lines on one account than to get separate accounts.

Don’t buy a smartphone for your child unless they are absolutely necessary. Elementary and middle school age children do not need smartphones. They don’t need to access the internet and social media all the time.

Your internet may be tied to cable, and you may be paying too much. Do you need the fastest internet? New providers are always coming out with better, cheaper plans, so shop around. If you try to cancel, your provider may offer you a better deal if you stick with them.

To save on online streaming services, consider paying for Amazon Prime (where you get multiple services for one service), shop for discounted streaming service gift cards at places like Sam’s to get a better deal, and use Swagbucks or Rakuten to find streaming service gift cards , or get a free or discounted trial through your cell phone provider.

After completing the trial period, they usually offer you a discount to continue your membership. If you say no, you may be contacted later via email.

Last but not least, evaluate the additional subscription services you have and decide if they’re really worth the money. Access to gyms, streaming services, streaming services, magazine subscriptions, subscriptions and savings, and you save the meaning of unlocking monthly subscription points.

You may find several subscriptions or members who have forgotten to pay. Be sure to delete or re-apply it ASAP. (Even if you haven’t used them in the last 3-6 months, you won’t be able to use them in the future!)
