Foods To Eat To Get Rid Of Lower Belly Fat

Like most women, I have struggled with that stubborn lower belly fat that never seems to go away! You think you eat healthy, exercise, not too much. you lose weight but the puppy remains. In my experience, there is no secret, magic diet that will get rid of it… it’s definitely a lifestyle change situation here. The phrase “abs are made in the kitchen” is so true! So, if you want to know how I got rid of my lower belly, keep reading! (Also, just FYI, I’ve never been pregnant, so my lower belly problem is not pregnancy related. This post is my experience getting rid of my lower belly fat.)

Low Carb Chicken Teriyaki

I’m not going to lie, my trainer writes my meal plans. I’m a dancer training for the audition season, so sometimes, I need that accountability… being called out on my slip ups makes me have less slip ups (I’m not a dieter, so sticking to a specific meal plan it’s super hard for me. I only do it for a few months leading up to audition season, but I love my tacos. I’m a lifestyle changer and I eat treats in moderation when I’m not prepping for auditions.) I did his meal plan for to prepare for the auditions last year which I started in December 2018 and after the auditions were over, I didn’t keep up with his exact diet plans, however, I maintained healthier food choices and continued good eating habits.

The picture below on the left side was me in December 2018. I’ve always been thin, but as you can see, I clearly have a low belly. I’ve always struggled to put on weight and keep it off, however, once I started putting on the wrong kind, it went straight to my lower belly. It always made me self-conscious and I tried so many ways to get rid of it that didn’t work. However, at the time, I was drinking every weekend and eating way too many desserts. Other than that though, I was eating “healthy” but not “clean”.

The picture on the right was before I started my audition meal plan again in January 2020. There was about an 8 month gap between finishing the meal plan from last year and starting it again this year. Although I wasn’t following a strict diet plan, I had incorporated some big lifestyle changes, such as a diet that included mostly fruits, vegetables, fish, organic animal proteins, much less alcohol (I’m not a drinker anymore though), and much less dessert.

I’ve learned a lot about how my body works and how to fuel it properly over the past year and a half. I know what caused my lower belly fat and I know how to keep mine at bay. I know everyone’s body is different, however, the tips I’m sharing are things I believe you can incorporate to be healthier overall and hopefully help get rid of belly fat too!

Simple 1,200 Calorie 7 Day Meal Plan

I know it seems extreme and you’re probably saying to yourself “well a drink won’t hurt”. But I was saying the same thing, that a drink was bad! Again, everyone’s body is different and alcohol has no effect on belly fat for some people, but if you’re reading this and drinking that daily glass of wine or just a few drinks out with friends, then you’re probably not one of them the people. Just try to quit alcohol for 2 weeks or even a month…I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Also, I used to have an occasional glass of wine or liquor with friends, but after that one drink, it was hard to say no to another, and once you’ve had that, people push you to have another. If you don’t drink at all, it’s easier to say no when people offer you a drink. And to add to that, if you’re only going to have that “one drink” then why not have water or iced tea without sweet? Most people claim they don’t feel any different after a drink, so why bother? Why consume calories and sugar?

I’ve noticed that when I go out, it’s not the non-alcoholic thing that makes me uncomfortable…Not having a cup in my hand. So I just have water or unsweetened iced tea. And also, I’ve noticed that not drinking makes other people more uncomfortable than me. Just a few things to think about!

If it comes in a package or you don’t know what it used to be, don’t eat it. Look for fruits, vegetables, nuts, organic (or at least antibiotic-free) meat, wild fish, organic grains (like oats, quinoa, rice…not bread and pasta.) Real food is easier to digest because you’re not trying to digest 30 ingredients at once.

Foods That Are Necessary For A Healthy Liver!

My mindset is that God has given us all the food we need, in the form we need it. We are not meant to consume a bunch of preservative and processed foods. If you are a Christian or just curious about what the Bible says about what we should eat, look especially at Ezekiel 4:9 and Genesis 1:29. God gives very specific instructions about what foods we should eat!

You can season your food with spices like salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ginger, cinnamon, basil, parsley, etc… you get where I’m going. No artificial flavors and limit natural flavors. (In my opinion, artificial and natural flavors are the food world’s version of flavoring. Tons of ingredients can be hidden behind those words, and you don’t know what those ingredients are.) You don’t need a bunch of MSG-laden seasonings and high high fructose corn syrup to make your food delicious!

Or strictly limit it to a few times a month. Again, I know this seems extreme, but if you’re craving this sweet dessert, you can make it without refined sugar. Some great alternatives (to be used in moderation, ie twice a week, not twice a day) are coconut sugar, coconut nectar, raw organic honey, organic maple syrup, date sugar, stevia, ripe bananas or applesauce. It’s an adjustment to learn to bake with natural sugars and sweeteners, but remember this is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE, not a fad diet!

Did you know that humans are the only mammals that drink milk after infancy and we are the only mammals that drink another animal’s milk?! It is not natural to consume dairy products. Babies are meant to drink their mother’s milk. Babies produce an enzyme called lactase that helps break down lactose. People no longer produce lactase beyond the age of 5 or so. We, as adults, are not made to digest milk! So many people suffer from gas, bloating and other various digestive problems and think it’s normal. It’s definitely not normal! And if you think you’re missing out on calcium if you don’t drink milk, you’re not! If you eat a well-balanced, complete diet, you shouldn’t be lacking in most nutrients, including calcium. There are much better, healthier sources of calcium out there (like dark leafy greens.) You don’t need dairy to get enough calcium!

Changing the foods you eat can lower your cholesterol and improve the armada of fats floating around in your bloodstream. Adding foods that lower LDL, the harmful cholesterol-carrying particle that contributes to artery-clogging atherosclerosis, is the best way to achieve a low-cholesterol diet.

Different foods lower cholesterol in different ways. Some provide soluble fiber, which binds cholesterol and its precursors in the digestive system and drags them out of the body before they enter circulation. Some give you polyunsaturated fats, which directly lower LDL. And some contain plant sterols and stanols, which prevent the body from absorbing cholesterol.
