Location Of Gallbladder In The Human Body – The gallbladder plays an important role in the digestive system, but many people do not understand what this organ does or what causes gallstones. Here’s what you need to know about the purpose of the gallbladder, gallbladder disease, and gallstones.

Your gallbladder is located under your liver and connects to the common bile duct. When the liver produces bile, the fluid is stored in the gallbladder until it is needed. After eating, the gallbladder releases its contents into the bile duct, which transports the bile to the small intestine to aid in digestion.

Although the gallbladder plays an important role in proper digestion, you can live without this organ. If you have had your gallbladder removed, the bile drains from your liver directly into your intestines. Side effects of this surgery include temporary diarrhea, but your body will adjust over time and resume normal digestion.

The Amazing Gallbladder| Dr. Berg

The New York Times estimates that 25 million Americans have gallstones each year, but only 1-3 percent of them experience symptoms. Gallstones are hardened digestive fluids—they can be small or more than an inch in diameter.

Chances are you’ll never know you have a gallstone. Painful symptoms appear only when the bile duct is blocked. This causes sudden, severe pain that can last for minutes or hours.

There are several conditions known as “gall disease,” including gallstones. You may also have inflammation of the gallbladder or gallbladder cancer. These conditions usually lead to the removal of the gallbladder, an operation called a cholecystectomy, which is often performed laparoscopically.

If you think you have gallstones or have questions about your gallbladder, contact your nearest gastroenterologist. The gallbladder starts from the gall bladder. To understand this, it helps to learn about the gallbladder and what it does.

The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ under the liver. Both the liver and gallbladder are behind the right rib cage. In adults, the gallbladder is usually about 3 to 4 inches long and usually no more than an inch wide.

Bile: Makeup, Function, Where It’s Found, How It Works

The gallbladder concentrates and stores fluid produced in the liver. Bile helps absorb fats in food as they pass through the small intestine. Bile is produced by the liver and is either sent to the tubes that lead to the small intestine or stored in the gallbladder and excreted later.

As food (especially fatty food) is digested, the gallbladder contracts and releases bile through a small tube called the cystic duct. The cystic duct joins with the common hepatic duct (coming from the liver) to form the common bile duct. The common bile duct joins the main duct (pancreatic duct) from the pancreas and empties into the first part of the small intestine (duodenum) at the ampulla of Vater.

The gallbladder helps digest food, but is not necessary for life. Many people have their gallbladders removed and lead normal lives.

Gallbladder tumors are rare and almost all are adenocarcinomas. Adenocarcinoma begins in glandular cells that line many surfaces of the body, including the inside of the digestive system.

Common Hepatic Artery: Anatomy, Function, And Significance

Papillary adenocarcinoma, or simply papillary, is a rare type of gallbladder adenocarcinoma that deserves special mention. These gall bladder cells are arranged in finger-like projections. In general, papillomas are less likely to spread to the liver or nearby lymph nodes. They have a better prognosis (prognosis) than other types of gallbladder adenocarcinoma.

Other types can start in the gallbladder, such as adenosquamous carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, and carcinosarcomas, but this is very rare.

Gallbladder Questions Answered

Cholecystitis usually occurs when gallstones (“stones” that form inside the bile from the liver) block the duct from the gallbladder. This leads to a build-up of bile which causes inflammation.

In rare cases, cholecystitis can also be caused by other problems in the bile duct, such as tumors, problems with the blood supply to the gallbladder, and infections.

If your doctor suspects that you have cholecystitis, they will examine you and ask about your medical history. They will usually order an abdominal ultrasound and blood tests to look for signs of liver inflammation or infection. If the ultrasound diagnosis isn’t definitive, they may order additional tests, such as an abdominal CT scan.

Surprising Truths About The Gallbladder

You will usually need to be treated in hospital with fasting, intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain medication. You may also need surgery to remove the gallbladder (cholecystectomy). If you have acute cholecystitis caused by gallstones, surgery is the standard treatment.

Gallbladder can be removed by laparoscopy. This is a type of keyhole surgery performed on the abdomen (belly). If there are complications with keyhole surgery, your doctors may need to switch to open surgery.

You can usually live a normal life without a gallbladder. After surgery, bile flows directly from the liver into the small intestine.

If cholecystitis is not treated, it can lead to inflammation of the liver, severe infection, rupture of the gallbladder, or death of some tissue in the gallbladder, all of which can be fatal.
