Best Way To Lose Weight During Menopause
There are many things to play after 40. Of course, there are hormonal changes and many women in this age group, especially the late 40s and 50s will have peri (or before) menopause. This means that hormones decrease including estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
So How Can We Lose Weight During The Menopause?
Some women will address the symptoms of menopause that accompany this with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). But taking HRT is not a solution to losing weight or trying to lose weight because hormones are not the only thing that can prevent you from losing weight.
Women tend to lose weight and gain fat as we age, so losing body fat slows down the rate at which we burn fat, causing a slower metabolism.

Menopause: How To Manage Weight Gain Or Weight Loss
Everyone is different and everyone has different symptoms and issues. There are 35 symptoms of menopause…everything from hot flashes to weight gain to heart palpitations. I will walk you through MY journey. This is what worked for me. You should always consult your doctor before taking anything to make sure you get the plan that will work best for you and your body.
The first thing I did was make an appointment to see a hormone specialist who ran a TON of blood work to get a full and complete picture. This is how I found out that I also have mild hypothyroidism which also leads to weight gain.
Hormone replacement therapy is not for everyone. You should consult your doctor about the risks. It is especially dangerous for women who have cancer or who are at risk of developing cancer.
I take Liothyronine for thyroid, Progesterone and Estrogen are the two hormones I take. Progesertone is a synthetic hormone that I take once a day. Estrogen is given through a patch and I apply a new patch once a week.
Is It Harder To Lose Fat & Gain Muscle During Menopause?
There are other things you can take to help with your symptoms and make you feel better. Talk to your doctor about Vitamin D, Omega 3, B-Complex, Adrenal Essence, Evening Primrose oil, etc.
Again, consult your doctor first. You may even need a nutritionist who specializes in menopausal women. If you hire a “regular” nutritionist, you may hear the same “eat less” mantra.
In the past, I’ve tried Intermittent Fasting, KETO, and of course I’m going to give up sugar and carbs. IF (Permanent Fasting) does not move the needle. I was very tired of the KETO diet after three months, which you can read more about here. But, what I’m going to do is not working as I mentioned above.
To lose 15 pounds I gave up a TON of things. I became a vegetarian except for eggs. I added sugar, gluten, dairy, meat and alcohol. I followed a plant-based, vegan diet for 6 months and that helped me lose 10 pounds.
How To Lose Weight During Perimenopause
Recently, I started to include fish in my diet. I still eat mostly gluten-free milk. I always add real sugar. I choose organic chocolate, usually dark. But I love dairy-free ice cream every day.
Mixing up my exercise routine is also important to lose weight. In the beginning, I tried all the ‘go to’ workouts including: running for a year straight (
A 17-mile mountain pass to run / hike, some weight training, P.Volve, BBG, Pilates, Barre. You name it, I did it! The heavy cardio worked, but it wasn’t sustainable and it took a toll on my body.
How did I really lose the last 5 pounds…? Do the Tracy Anderson routine 6 times a week. I do Tracy’s aTAin workout online at least 5x a week now. It changes the game! Look at my feet before and after the photo above. You can see how thin my legs are! You can also see estrogen blockers like… Ha! I may edit that, but I thought it would help me see it. Tracy’s workouts have shaved inches off my body and given me strength and flexibility. I recommend turning off his music and listening to your own music while you exercise.
